Are you an experienced Welder with rope-access qualifications or relevant rope-access experience?
Our client is seeking skilled Welders to join its specialist team, delivering welding, installation, maintenance and repair services in challenging industrial environments across Queensland and New South Wales.
Successful candidates will be based in, or willing to relocate to, Rockhampton and must be available to travel to project sites as required.
About the role
As a Welder, you will be responsible for joining, repairing and maintaining metal components and structures using appropriate welding processes. Some work will be undertaken at heights using rope-access techniques.
Studying drawings, specifications and work instructions to determine welding requirements
Selecting, preparing, measuring and aligning metal components for welding
Setting up and operating welding equipment using appropriate processes, including MIG, TIG, MMAW or flux-cored welding as required
Welding metal components in flat, vertical and overhead positions
Inspecting weld preparations, welds and completed work to ensure compliance with specifications, procedures and quality standards
Using thermal cutting, grinding and gouging equipment to prepare joints and finish welded components
Repairing cracks, defects and damaged metal components and structures
Performing welding, repair and maintenance work at heights using rope-access systems
Maintaining welding equipment and ensuring tools are safe and serviceable
Complying with workplace health and safety procedures, hot-work permits and site requirements
Working collaboratively with rope-access technicians, supervisors and other tradespeople
Skills and experience
To be considered for this position, you should have:
A relevant welding trade qualification, such as a Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade, or an equivalent qualification
Demonstrated experience working as a Welder
A current IRATA, SPRAT or equivalent rope-access qualification, or relevant practical rope-access experience
Demonstrated experience with relevant welding processes, such as MIG, TIG, MMAW or flux-cored welding
The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, welding symbols and specifications
Experience using welding machines, thermal cutting equipment, grinders, hand tools and power tools
A strong understanding of workplace health and safety and hot-work requirements
The physical ability and willingness to work safely at heights and in industrial environments
Good communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
A willingness to travel to project sites as required
Relevant welding certifications or tickets, additional high-risk work licences, confined-space certification, working-at-heights training or rescue qualifications will be highly regarded.
