Tresillian is pleased to announce this opportunity for a motivated and experienced Aboriginal Health Worker, to join the Level 2 referral service through aninnovative Mobile Van-based model of service delivery.
TheTresillian2U Early Years Parenting Service (T2U)is provided from a fit-for-purpose van.
The T2U service will visit towns of lower population density within a designated area on a rotational basis providing individual consultations, group programs and community engagement activities.
This unique service model provides greater access to care and support for families experiencing complex early parenting difficulties, while being connected for clinical support through the Tresillian network of services.
The successful applicant will work as part of a team with a Child and Family Health Nurse, establishing key connections and opportunities for collaboration with local service providers to improve the pathways to care and support for families.
In this role, you will use your excellent engagement skills and knowledge of the community to connect and build trusting relationships with families with children aged 0-5 years to facilitate links to health, social and cultural supports.
You will support clients directly through active intake, assessment, care planning, referral and advocacy processes.
You will have a strong understanding of trauma-informed care, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences, and ensure this understanding is reflected in the delivery of services to families.
You will have knowledge and understanding of First Nations communities, families, and children, and creating cultural safety.




Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) will provide support and referral to services for Aboriginal children 0-3yrs and their families regarding their health and developmental needs.
The AHW will act as a resource for health workers to ensure that services are culturally appropriate, working together with the Child and Family Health Nurses, other health clinicians and workers to develop a plan of care and support to promote the wellbeing and health outcomes for children and their families.
This will include the development of networks of people and services for Aboriginal people that will assist and increase access to services.
Selection Criteria – Applicants must address the Selection Criteria
The eligibility criteria for Aboriginal Health Workers employed with Tresillian are that the candidate:
1)Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Anti-discrimination Act ****.
All applicants must provide a support letter of Aboriginality signed under the Common Seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service, etc.
2)Holds a minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (including undergoing recognition of prior learning processes against current qualifications) with a willingness to complete a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.
3)Has knowledge of Aboriginal Health issues, relevant to maternal, infant/child and family health.
4)Demonstrates ability to communicate and liaise with relevant communities, Health Professionals and Interagency services to improve the outcome for families.
5)Has experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.
6)Demonstrates well developed oral and written communication skills.
7)Demonstrates computer literacy skills including ability to use word processing, email, and internet applications.
8)Holds a current First Aid and Resuscitation Qualification or willingness to complete within first 3-months of employment.
9)Holds a current Drivers Licence Class C and willing to travel as part of the role.

Applicants may be eligible to receive a one-off payment of up to $10,000 (gross) (pro-rata) for eligible identified positions by Tresillian to cover immediate and direct costs associated with permanently relocating to our Launceston site.
