Sydney
1d ago , from Illawarra Mercury Job Board
Reporting to: Managing Director
Sydney, Australia
Chief Operations Officer
An opportunity that defines careers.
Most executive opportunities involve maintaining what already exists.
This one is about creating what comes next.
Our client is one of Australia's most respected privately owned healthcare organisations, operating a national, multi‐brand allied health platform delivering services across disability, health, employment and community sectors. With an established market presence, an exceptional clinical workforce and a solid reputation for quality, the organisation is entering the most significant chapter of its history.
Backed by an engaged Board, committed shareholders and a clearly defined growth strategy, the business is now seeking an exceptional Chief Operations Officer to lead the next phase of its operational evolution.
This is a rare opportunity to take an already successful healthcare platform, unlock its full potential and help lead the organisation through a significant value creation journey.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will assume full accountability for operational strategy, commercial performance and execution across a complex, geographically dispersed healthcare business.
Your mandate is clear:
Drive operational excellence and sustainable earnings growth.
Build a high-performance executive team and culture of accountability.
Strengthen financial performance and scalability.
Lead the evaluation, acquisition and successful integration of complementary businesses.
Position the organisation as the market leader in its sector.
Deliver the strategic outcomes required to maximise enterprise value.
The successful executive will inherit a strong platform with genuine momentum, but this is not a maintenance role. It requires a leader who thrives in complexity, enjoys building high‐performing organisations and is energised by creating long‐term shareholder value.
Who We're Looking For
You are an accomplished executive with a reputation for delivering measurable commercial outcomes.
You have likely held a Chief Operations Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Divisional CEO, Managing Director, Executive General Manager or equivalent executive leadership role within healthcare, allied health, disability services or another complex people‐intensive services environment.
Importantly, you bring:
Demonstrated success leading businesses with full P&L; accountability.
Experience scaling multi‐site or nationally distributed service organisations.
A proven ability to improve profitability through operational discipline and commercial execution.
Experience leading acquisitions, mergers or post‐acquisition integration.
Exposure to private equity, founder‐led businesses or organisations preparing for a significant capital event will be highly regarded.
The credibility to lead highly skilled clinical and professional workforces while balancing commercial performance with exceptional client outcomes.
The Person
This role requires more than an accomplished operator.
We're looking for someone who combines commercial sophistication with humility, resilience and authenticity.
A leader who naturally builds trust.
Someone equally comfortable presenting to a Board, negotiating strategic partnerships, engaging clinicians in the field and making difficult decisions when required.
You will be recognised for your ability to simplify complexity, build outstanding executive teams and create organisations that consistently outperform.
Why This Opportunity?
Opportunities of this calibre are uncommon.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Lead a nationally recognised healthcare organisation through its next phase of growth.
Shape the future of one of Australia's most respected healthcare platforms.
Drive a significant acquisition and integration strategy.
Leave a genuine legacy through operational transformation and sustainable value creation.
Play a pivotal role in the organisation's long‐term strategic growth.
For the right executive, this represents far more than a career move—it is an opportunity to define your executive legacy.
