Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Media & Content Manager to uncover compelling stories, secure meaningful media coverage and support schools in navigating today's fast-moving communications landscape.
This is an exciting opportunity for a media, journalism or communications professional to join a high-performing Corporate Affairs team and combine proactive media relations, issues management and strategic storytelling in a role where no two days are the same.
From identifying stories that showcase the impact of independent schools and securing positive media coverage, to managing high-profile enquiries and supporting school leaders through complex communications challenges, you will play a key role in shaping the public narrative and protecting and enhancing the reputation of ISV and Victoria's independent school sector.
Your responsibilities will include:
Secure positive media coverage for ISV and Member Schools through proactive story development, media pitching and engagement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and key media outlets.
Manage media enquiries, develop key messages, prepare media responses and coordinate spokesperson opportunities.
Monitor media activity and provide timely, considered advice on emerging issues and reputational risks.
Identify opportunities to position ISV and Member Schools as credible and influential voices on education and community issues.
Support school leaders with strategic communications advice during sensitive or complex situations.
Assist with issues management planning, stakeholder communications and media preparedness.
Develop engaging content across media, digital and Member communications channels.
Collaborate on video and digital storytelling projects that showcase the impact of independent schools.
Monitor, evaluate and report on media coverage and communications outcomes.
You will bring:
A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Media or a related field.
Significant experience, ideally 8–10 years, in media relations, journalism, public affairs or communications.
Demonstrated success in proactive media pitching and securing meaningful coverage.
Strong existing media relationships across relevant outlets and areas.
Proven experience managing reactive media enquiries and delivering high-quality responses under pressure.
Experience providing strategic communications advice and issues management support.
Exceptional writing skills, particularly across media releases, statements, key messages an briefing notes.
A strong understanding of the Australian media landscape.
Sound judgement, discretion and composure when dealing with sensitive or reputational matters.
Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to work effectively with senior leaders.
A collaborative, proactive approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
