About the Role:
We're looking for a CA or CPA qualified Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting and finance operations for a growing, technology-enabled services business. This is a hands-on role focused on Australian and consolidated group accounting, with responsibility for the full month-end close, tax compliance, and payroll coordination across multiple jurisdictions.
You'll work closely with, and report directly to, the Finance Manager, and will direct an offshore accountant who supports transactional processing. This is a genuine opportunity to build technical depth working with private, venture-backed and PE-backed businesses, with a clear path to take on additional clients or step into broader portfolio responsibility as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and execute the full month-end close process, including accruals, deferrals, FX revaluation and balance sheet reconciliations
Perform first-pass accounting consolidations and prepare management and statutory reporting packs
Conduct variance analysis against budget and forecast, and support board reporting with financial commentary
Own accounts payable and receivable processing, including policy and approval matrix documentation
Manage BAS/IAS lodgements and coordinate with external tax advisors
Coordinate payroll delivery across Australia and international jurisdictions, including payroll tax and superannuation compliance
Direct, review and coach an offshore accounting resource to ensure quality and accuracy of delivery
Maintain documented accounting processes and drive opportunities for automation and process improvement
Provide structured reporting to the Finance Manager on portfolio status, compliance deadlines and team performance
What You Need to Be Successful:
CA or CPA qualified (or equivalent)
Prior experience as an Accountant or Senior Accountant in a hands-on role, including month-end close ownership
Strong technical grounding in accounting standards, reconciliations, accruals and statutory reporting
Experience managing or reviewing offshore/outsourced resources, with the ability to coach for improvement
Experience with tax compliance, BAS/IAS lodgements and payroll accounting
Strong working knowledge of Xero or similar cloud accounting platforms; familiarity with consolidation tools (e.g. Fathom) highly regarded
Comfortable working directly with stakeholders on technical accounting matters
A stable employment history is preferred — ideally 3+ years in your current role, demonstrating consistency and resilience
