Lead the day-to-day administration of an established specialist practice
Attend our St Leonards office one day each week, with remaining hours worked from home

$45–$55 per hour plus superannuation, depending on experience and capability
An excellent opportunity exists for an experienced Practice Manager or Senior Medical Secretary to join an established gastroenterology practice.
Working closely with Dr Douglas Samuel, you will oversee the practice's day-to-day administration, work alongside and coordinate a permanent administrator and occasional casual cover, and help ensure that patients, referrers and hospital partners receive efficient, qualified and thoughtful service.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and maintaining reliable systems in a busy specialist medical practice.
The successful candidate will attend our St Leonards office one day per week, with the remainder of their working hours completed from a suitable private home office.
Key responsibilities
Coordinating administrative staff and occasional casual cover
Managing doctors' diaries, consultation appointments and theatre lists
Overseeing patient enquiries, referrals, recalls and procedure bookings
Managing Medicare, DVA and private health fund billing
Monitoring accounts, invoices, banking and practice expenses
Maintaining effective administrative, privacy and clinical-support systems
Coordinating recruitment, onboarding, leave and staff administration
Liaising with hospitals, referring doctors,
suppliers and external providers
Identifying problems early and ensuring important tasks are followed through
About you
You will ideally have:
At least three years' experience in medical reception or administration
Previous practice-management or senior medical-secretarial experience
Exceptional attention to detail and dependable follow-through
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Confidence making decisions and managing competing priorities
Experience with Medicare, DVA and private health fund billing
Sound IT skills; experience with Genie is preferred but not essential
The ability to work independently and productively from home
A suitable private home office, reliable internet connection and a strong understanding of confidentiality
A calm, kind and professional approach to patients and colleagues
Previous gastroenterology experience would be helpful but is not essential.
Hours and remuneration
The role is approximately***** hours per week across three to four days, with the working pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate.
Remuneration is$45–$55 per hour plus superannuation, depending on experience and capability.
Employment arrangement
This is a part-time, fixed-term parental-leave replacement position commencing as soon as possible and expected to continue until approximately5 April ****.
The substantive employee has a right to return to her position following parental leave, and changes to her parental-leave arrangements may affect the duration of this appointment.
There may be an opportunity for ongoing employment after the fixed-term appointment, subject to the availability of a suitable ongoing position, the operational needs of the practice and satisfactory performance.Ongoing employment is not guaranteed.
