Junior Software Developer — Hunt The Night (Pakenham, VIC)
Full-time | On-site, Pakenham VIC
Guns, thermal scopes... and LLMs?
Yep.
Hunt The Night is a licensed firearms, thermal and night vision retailer in Pakenham — and behind the counter we're quietly building some seriously modern tech: a Shopify Plus store, custom middleware, AI agent pipelines, the works.
We're after a junior developer to join us full-time and help push it further.
You'll probably be the only person in the building who gets more excited about a new model release than a new rifle release.
That's fine.
That's the point.
Who you are
A degree in software engineering, computer science, or something close enough that you can argue the difference
Genuinely obsessed with LLMs.
Not "I used ChatGPT once" obsessed.
We mean: you know who Matt Pocock is, and when someone says "Theo" you don't think of a person you went to school with.
You watch the model release livestreams.
You have opinions.
You live on the frontier — agentic workflows, context engineering, agent loops, evals, MCP, multi-agent orchestration.
If none of those words made you sit up, this isn't your ad.
You can smell AI slop from a mile away — and you'd rather write it properly than ship whatever the model coughed up on the first try.
Vibe coding is not a personality trait here.
You know that domains are better than services.
If you just nodded, we already like you.
If you're about to argue the point — even better,
bring it to the interview.
Solid web development fundamentals with front-end design skills — you'll be working hands-on with our Shopify Plus store (Liquid, theme work, Admin API)
Bonus points: Meta Ads experience (yes, running Facebook ads for a gun shop is exactly as spicy as it sounds)
What you'll actually do
Build and maintain features on our Shopify Plus store — theme development, Liquid, metafields, Admin API integrations
Work on our custom middleware connecting Shopify to our POS and inventory systems
Get hands-on with real agentic AI systems in production — not toy demos
Help with digital marketing tech: email flows, ad tooling, tracking
Learn fast, ship things, and occasionally explain to a customer that no, you don't know which thermal scope is best for sambar
What you'll get
A full-time role where "playing with cutting-edge AI" is literally the job description
A small business where your work ships to real customers the same week
A boss who will happily debate agent architecture with you for longer than is professionally necessary
The best "so what do you do?" answer at any party: "I build AI agents for a gun shop."
How to apply
Send us your CV plus a short note answering one question: what's the most compelling thing you've built or broken with an LLM?
Links to GitHub, side projects, or unhinged agent experiments strongly encouraged.
