Firm Background
Arnold Bloch Leibler is a premium Australian commercial law firm with offices in Melbourne and Sydney. Clients turn to ABL for advice on their most important transactions, disputes and commercial decisions.
The firm is particularly known for its work with large private and founder-led businesses, high-net-worth individuals and family offices, entrepreneurial ASX-listed companies, private capital investors, and international businesses with interests in Australia.
ABL provides strategic, commercially focused advice that takes account of legal, reputational and stakeholder considerations. The firm is also distinguished by its longstanding public interest law practice and decades of work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations.
The Property & Development Practice
Our national Property & Development practice is led by a team of pre-eminent partners who have gained a reputation for understanding our clients' needs and achieving outstanding results for them across all property sectors.
The firm's property group adopts a consolidated approach to property and development matters, which is critical for managing timeframes and containing costs. Moreover, the group is unique in terms of its collective experience and depth of expertise, having represented clients in a large number of landmark property and development projects around Australia for nearly half a century.
We advise on all aspects of property acquisition, financing, planning, development, construction, ownership, sales and leasing. Our clients turn to us for this consolidated approach.
The Role

A rare opportunity exists for a mid-level lawyer with private practice experience (around three to five years' post-admission experience) to join the Sydney Property & Development team.
Working closely with our partners and directly with clients, you will play a key role across a broad range of sophisticated property and development matters. You will be given meaningful responsibility from the outset, with the opportunity to build strong client relationships and progressively take ownership of matters as your experience develops.
The successful candidate will have experience across a broad range of commercial property transactions, including:
drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts for sale, option agreements, development agreements, leases and other transaction documents;
conducting due diligence investigations and preparing due diligence reports;
advising clients throughout the acquisition, development, financing, leasing and disposal of commercial property assets;
managing matters through the full transaction lifecycle, from initial structuring and due diligence through to negotiation, completion and post-completion implementation;
working directly with clients and other advisers to deliver practical, commercially focused outcomes; and
participating in, and increasingly taking the lead in, negotiations with counterparties and their advisers.
In addition,

you will demonstrate:
a genuine passion for property and development law;
excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify the legal and commercial issues that matter most;
strong commercial judgement and an ability to provide practical, strategic advice;
the ability to assume carriage of matters appropriate to your level of experience, with partner guidance and supervision where required;
excellent drafting, communication and negotiation skills;
a proactive, team-oriented and outcome-focused approach to your work;
the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues; and
a commitment to technical excellence and staying abreast of legal and commercial developments.
In return, you will join a close-knit, highly regarded team acting for an outstanding client base on some of Australia's most significant and complex property and development matters. You will receive high-quality mentoring from recognised leaders in the field while enjoying genuine responsibility, direct client exposure and excellent opportunities for continued professional development.
Staff benefits
The salary package offered for this position is competitive and includes a range of benefits, including:
on-going training through the firm's professional development program;
a fully subsidised corporate gym membership and wellness program;
in-house fully subsidised café;
prime CBD location;
free legal advice for wills, estate planning and conveyancing; and
discounted corporate health insurance through a leading Australian health fund.
