Evening/night home carer for a mum with a physical disability and her toddler
We are looking for a kind and reliable person who would be able to offer one or more four-hour evening shifts (9pm to 1am) per week. We need help with:
1) Our married daughter (35), who has a physical disability and an anxiety disorder. She has limited mobility and needs assistance moving around in a wheelchair as well as help with personal care and meal preparation. She is quiet-natured, easy-going, intelligent and friendly. Her anxiety disorder requires a gentle, caring presence. She is prone to headaches from perfumes, so we will need you to use no perfumed products, and you will need to be a non-smoker. Her condition affects her sleep and so she typically needs help getting to bed between midnight and 1am.
2) Her 19-month old toddler son, who is sociable, sunny-natured and lively. Some of the care hours will be focused around helping with his care, such as nappy changes, feeding him, giving him a bath as needed, helping to keep him protected when he is running around, playing with or reading to him, and assisting his mother with helping him fall asleep.
Another person needing care in the household is my father (92), who needs assistance with undressing and toileting.



He is usually in bed before 9pm so this role is unlikely to involve caring for him, however in unusual circumstances it may be occasionally needed.
We are particularly keen to find people who are natural 'night owls' and tend to go to bed late. A typical evening would involve playing with or reading to the toddler, serving an evening meal to our daughter, taking her to the toilet and helping her and the toddler get to bed. If two people are needing care there should normally be additional help from another adult in the house – myself or my son-in-law
When not helping with the needs of my daughter and grandson, the carer would be expected to help with doing dishes and keeping the kitchen tidy.
We are looking for a versatile and empathetic person who is calm, kind, patient, detail-oriented and has high standards of food safety and hygiene. Experience with toddlers or disability care would be particularly valued. Formal qualifications are valued but not required. We will want to carry out a police check. We are in a rural suburb and you will need your own transport to get to us. We are also running a separate advert for care in the day.
The pay range quoted is for applicants with experience.
