Job Description
Senior People Partner | Uniting Church in Australia – Synod of NSW & ACT
/n
Help us build something special.
/n
We're on a journey to create a contemporary, strategic People & Culture function that partners with leaders, strengthens organisational capability and delivers exceptional employee experiences.
/n
We're not there yet.
/n
We're looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to help build that future with us.
/n
This is a role for someone who loves partnering with leaders, influencing change and shaping culture – but who also understands that building a high‐performing People & Culture function means occasionally rolling up your sleeves, pitching in with operational work and supporting the team wherever needed.
/n
If that sounds like you, we'd love to talk.
/n
About us
/n
The Synod of NSW & ACT supports more than 400 congregations, schools, ministries and community organisations across New South Wales and the ACT.
/n
Our purpose is simple:
/n
Serving the Church to make a Jesus-shaped difference in the world.
/n
Our People & Culture team is evolving. We're moving from a traditional HR model to a modern, proactive and trusted partnering function that enables our leaders and people to thrive. It's an exciting time to join us and help shape what comes next.
/n
About the role
/n
Reporting to the Manager, People & Culture Partnering, you'll partner with leaders across a diverse portfolio, providing strategic advice and practical support across the full employee lifecycle.
/n
Your work will include:
/n
/n
- Partnering with leaders on workforce planning, leadership, culture and organisational change.
/n
- Coaching and supporting leaders through people challenges.
/n
- Managing complex employee relations matters.
/n
- Contributing to organisational development and continuous improvement initiatives.
/n
- Helping shape new ways of working, systems and people practices.
/n/n
Because we're building our future People & Culture model,
you'll also be someone who is happy to jump in when needed. Whether that's supporting recruitment, helping resolve day‐to‐day HR matters, assisting colleagues during busy periods or contributing to operational initiatives, you'll understand that every excellent team occasionally needs everyone to pitch in.
/n
We see this as a strength of the role - not a compromise. It means you'll have genuine influence in building the function while staying connected to the day‐to‐day realities of our organisation.
/n
You'll be joining a team that...
/n
...believes People & Culture should be more than policy and process.
/n
We're building a team that is curious, collaborative and genuinely enjoys working together. We value practical solutions over bureaucracy, conversations over emails and partnerships over transactions.
/n
We believe the best People & Culture professionals combine strategic thinking with practical delivery. They coach rather than direct, challenge respectfully, support one another during busy periods and aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves when needed.
/n
Everyone has a voice. Ideas are encouraged. Success is shared. We're looking for someone who wants to help shape not only our organisation, but also the kind of People & Culture team they always wanted to be part of.
/n
You're someone who...
/n
/n
- enjoys building trusted relationships and becoming a genuine advisor to leaders
/n
- loves solving complex people challenges with sound judgement and empathy
/n
- can think strategically but isn't afraid to get your hands dirty when the situation calls for it
/n
- enjoys coaching leaders rather than simply giving advice
/n
- is energised by change and enjoys building better ways of working
/n
- values collaboration, curiosity and continuous improvement
/n
- wants to leave an organisation better than you found it
/n/n
You'll also bring:
/n
/n
- Significant experience in a Senior HR Business Partner or strategic People & Culture partnering role.
/n
- Strong organisational development and change management capability.
/n
- Experience managing complex employee relations matters.
/n
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
/n
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and a willingness to make things happen.
/n/n
Most importantly, you'll bring authenticity, humility and a genuine desire to help people and organisations thrive.
/n
This is an opportunity to help build something meaningful.
/n
You'll have the chance to influence strategy, strengthen leadership capability and shape the future of our People & Culture function from the ground up.
/n
In return, we offer:
/n
/n
- A genuine opportunity to shape the future of People & Culture.
/n
- Meaningful work that positively impacts communities across NSW and the ACT.
/n
- A collaborative and supportive leadership team.
/n
- Variety, autonomy and opportunities to make a real difference.
/n
- Hybrid working arrangements.
/n
- Market-competitive salary and benefits.
/n/n
Our values
/n
Everything we do is guided by our values of:
/n
/n
- Integrity
/n
- Respect
/n
- Compassion
/n/n
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone belongs.
/n
If you're excited by the opportunity to build, influence and make a lasting impact, we'd love to hear from you.
/n
Apply now.
/n
- Applications will close on the 14th of August.
