Lead and develop Project Managers and Senior Project Managers while driving commercial, operational and client outcomes across the Civil & Urban division.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager with land development, sub-division, and/or Main Roads & Water Corp experience to join our growing team. Reporting to the General Manager – Civil & Urban, the role is responsible for the leadership and performance of a portfolio of civil infrastructure projects delivered across metropolitan and regional Perth. The role provides leadership, mentoring and support to Project Managers and Senior Project Managers while ensuring the business achieves its safety, quality, client, programme and financial objectives.
About the role
- Lead, mentor, and motivate project teams to successfully deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Lead and develop a team of Project Managers and Senior Project Managers responsible for the delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure projects.
- Drive portfolio performance across safety, quality, programme, commercial and client outcomes.
- Review project forecasts, cost-to-complete positions and financial performance across all projects.
- Lead intervention and recovery planning for projects that fall below performance expectations.
- Oversee resource allocation and workforce planning to ensure projects are appropriately resourced and capable of achieving delivery objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership on major commercial matters including claims, variations, risk management and contractual disputes.
- Lead client, consultant, and contractor negotiations,
maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and achieving positive commercial outcomes.
- Review tender pricing, project programs, and delivery strategies to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and improve project performance.
- Ensure accountability across project teams through effective performance management, clear communication, and timely decision-making.
- Oversee the implementation of project HSEQ management plans, ensuring hazards, incidents, and risks are effectively identified, reported, and managed.
- Demonstrate visible leadership and commitment to a zero-harm culture, fostering a safe, positive, and high-performing work environment.
- Drive the achievement of portfolio revenue and profitability targets through effective leadership and commercial oversight.
- Promote operational excellence through the implementation of consistent project delivery standards, lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support annual business planning, budgeting and forecasting activities.
Typical projects include:
- Residential and industrial subdivisions
- Bulk earthworks
- Road and pavement construction
- Underground services infrastructure
- Oversight of multiple concurrent civil works packages collectively exceeding $80M per annum
Our ideal candidate will have
- Demonstrated 10+ years’ experience in Civil Construction leading Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Engineering Degree (Civil).
- Proven track record of successfully managing a portfolio of civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience working with MRWA and Water Corporation (preferred).
- Excellent commercial acumen involving project forecasts, cost to complete reporting and financial performance reporting.
- Sound PC skills with experience in Microsoft suite of products.
- Excellent communication skills verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Possess team building skills and ability to impart strong leadership.
