Leading Hand Electrician | Avalon Airport

$57.42* per hour + loadings + overtime + allowances + 1 RDO per month!

*new hourly rate is subject to FWC approval - current EBA submitted and is pending approval.

The Position

Avalon Airport is seeking an experienced and motivated Leading Hand Electrician to join our Facilities Maintenance team.

Reporting to the Facilities Operations Supervisor, this hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating daily electrical maintenance and project activities across Avalon Airport. You will provide technical expertise while leading a small team of electricians and apprentices, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of maintenance and project works in a complex operational environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrician looking to take the next step into a supervisory role while remaining actively involved in the trade.

What you will do

- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of electricians, apprentices and contractors.

- Perform routine, preventative and reactive maintenance on airport electrical infrastructure.

- Diagnose and rectify complex electrical faults.

- Maintain lighting, power distribution systems, switchboards, motors, pumps and control equipment.

- Conduct and oversee testing and tagging activities.

- Assist with the planning and delivery of electrical maintenance and minor projects.

- Coordinate contractors to ensure safe and compliant work practices.

- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders and inspection reports.

- Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations and airport stakeholders.

- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all activities.

- Ensure compliance with relevant electrical, safety and environmental regulations.





What you will bring

- Current A Grade Electrical Licence (essential).

- Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent.

- Current Driver's Licence.

- Ability to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).

- Extensive experience in electrical maintenance and installation within commercial, industrial or similar environments.

- Supervisory/leading hand experience of minimum 4 workers for minimum 5 years.

- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.

- Ability to interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics and specifications.

- Strong understanding of electrical regulations, safe work practices and risk management principles.

- Excellent communication and leadership skills.

- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

- Administration, i.e. quoting, lighting design, material ordering, managing preventative maintenance, liaise with Tenants and Airport staff.

- Industrial maintenance, motor control and installation experience.

- High Voltage switching experience, overhead and underground, understanding of single line drawings, understanding and issuing of permits.

- Subcontractor engagement and onsite management and compliance.

- Working at heights above 11mtrs.
