The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an experienced Senior Strategic Data & Spatial Analyst to lead the development of spatial intelligence, geospatial analytics and strategic data insights that support evidence-based planning and decision making across our municipality. Reporting to the Principal Strategic Planner, you will play a key role in helping shape the future of one of Melbourne's most dynamic and evolving communities through cutting-edge analysis, data visualisation and spatial intelligence.
In this influential role, you will deliver high-quality spatial and strategic analysis to inform growth planning, housing, infrastructure investment, climate resilience, community services and policy development. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you will develop and maintain spatial datasets, dashboards, mapping products and analytical tools, while providing specialist advice to senior leaders and project teams. Offering significant autonomy, this position provides an exciting opportunity to influence strategic decision making and drive evidence-based outcomes that benefit our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex spatial, demographic, land use, housing, infrastructure and climate-related analysis.
- Develop and maintain spatial datasets, dashboards, mapping products and data visualisation tools.
- Deliver forecasting, scenario modelling and place-based analysis to support strategic planning.
- Provide specialist analytical advice and briefings to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Contribute evidence and insights to Council strategies, policies, plans and investment priorities.
- Drive best practice in data governance, quality assurance, privacy and data stewardship.
- Identify opportunities to enhance automation, workflow efficiency and analytical capabilities.
- Build organisational capability through knowledge sharing, mentoring and collaboration.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Geospatial Science, Data Analytics, Urban Planning, Social Sciences, Applied Science or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in spatial intelligence, geospatial analytics, strategic data analysis or planning-related research.
- Advanced proficiency in GIS and spatial analytics platforms, including ESRI products or equivalent technologies.
- Demonstrated experience delivering analytical insights that inform policy, planning and executive decision making.
- Strong data visualisation and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into meaningful and accessible insights.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of urban planning, population growth, housing, infrastructure, open space and climate resilience issues will be highly regarded.
