About the role

HES Business Group Pty Ltd is seeking experienced Mechanical Drill Fitters to join our team in Broken Hill, Far West NSW. This is a full-time rostered role, with FIFO, DIDO, or residential options available for the right candidate. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of underground drill rigs, ensuring maximum equipment reliability and availability. The role requires extensive experience working on Epiroc (Atlas Copco) and Sandvik underground drilling equipment in a demanding mining environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.

What you'll be doing

- Perform preventative, scheduled, and breakdown maintenance on underground drill rigs.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and drilling system faults.
- Conduct major component replacements, rebuilds, and overhauls.
- Maintain and repair:
- Epiroc/Atlas Copco drill rigs
- Sandvik drill rigs

- Complete detailed inspections and fault-finding activities.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service information.
- Accurately complete maintenance reports, work orders, and inspection records.
- Ensure compliance with site safety standards, policies, and statutory regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area and company tooling.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications

- Trade Qualified Mechanical Fitter/Diesel Fitter or Heavy-Duty Plant Mechanic.
- Current manual driver's licence.

Experience

- Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a Mechanical Drill Fitter in underground mining.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Epiroc (Atlas Copco) underground drill rigs
- Sandvik underground drill rigs

- Experience performing breakdown diagnostics and fault-finding.




- Proven experience with hydraulic systems and underground mobile equipment maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and within a maintenance team.

Technical Skills

- Advanced hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience with drilling systems and rock drill maintenance.
- Ability to interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of planned maintenance systems.

Desirable Requirements

- Epiroc OEM training.
- Sandvik OEM training.
- HR Licence.
- Forklift Licence.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience with underground production and development drilling equipment.
