About the role Roku is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our Regional TV Software team in Cambridge, United Kingdom. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about developing innovative software solutions for television platforms. As a member of our dynamic team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the viewing experience for users across various regional markets. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain software that powers our regional TV offerings.

What you’ll do

- Design and develop software applications that enhance the functionality of Roku’s regional TV services, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications for software development.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to industry best practices and coding standards.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and ensuring high-quality code is delivered.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues, ensuring timely delivery of updates and enhancements.
- Work closely with QA teams to develop and execute test plans, ensuring that new features meet quality standards before deployment.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve the software development process and product offerings.




- Contribute to the documentation of software designs, processes, and user guides to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
- Assist in the integration of third‑party services and APIs to enhance the functionality of Roku’s regional TV software.
- Collaborate with the DevOps team to streamline deployment processes and improve the overall software lifecycle management.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to help them grow their technical skills and knowledge.
- Engage in agile development practices, participating in sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives to ensure effective team collaboration.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in software development, with a focus on applications for television or streaming platforms.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python, with a strong understanding of object‑oriented programming principles.
- Experience with software development frameworks and tools, including Git, Jenkins, and Docker.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in a quick‑paced,



collaborative environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex software issues effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

- Experience with video streaming technologies and protocols, such as HLS or DASH.
- Knowledge of user interface design principles and experience with front‑end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with cloud services and platforms, such as AWS or Azure, for deploying and managing applications.
- Previous experience working in a multicultural environment or with international teams.
