Mainstream Industries Pty Ltd is seeking experienced Vac Truck/NDD Combo Operators to join our team in the Newcastle and Hunter region. Our Depot is at Thornton and our mechanical workshop based in Singleton. This is a full time position offering an exciting opportunity to work with specialised plant and machinery in the power gneration sector.You will be responsible for operating combined vacuum truck and Non-Destructive Digging (NDD) equipment, performing essential services that support infrastructure projects across the region. This role is based on-site and requires a commitment to safety, precision, and professional service delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Operate vacuum trucks and NDD combo equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry safety standards
- Perform non-destructive digging operations to safely expose underground utilities and services
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and maintenance checks on all plant and machinery
- Maintain detailed records of operations, including work completed, materials handled, and any issues encountered
- Communicate effectively with site supervisors, clients, and team members to ensure project requirements are met
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Transport equipment between job sites and ensure proper loading and securing of machinery
- Respond promptly to service requests and work within specified timeframes
- Monitor fuel, hydraulic fluid, and other consumables, reporting low levels to management
What we’re looking for
- Current Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) driver’s licence, with a valid National Police Clearance
- Proven experience operating vacuum trucks and/or NDD (Non-Destructive Digging) equipment
- Demonstrated knowledge of underground utility location and safe digging practices
- Understanding of load restraint requirements and safe equipment transport procedures
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with site teams
- Commitment to workplace health and safety protocols and a safety-first mindset
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Physical fitness to perform manual tasks and work in varied weather conditions
- Preferably, certification in Excavation Work (or willingness to undertake training)
- Experience in the construction, civil works, or utilities sector is highly desirable
- Must have a white card
- Will need to successfully pass an order 45 medical and respiratory fit test
