- Examine and approve applications, plans, food registration, renewals, and transfers under the Food Act.
- Advise prospective commercial operators and the community of relevant Council policies and/or guidelines and statutory obligations affecting the establishment of food premises and vehicles.
- This will require liaison and reference to other Council departments.
- Inspect and audit registered establishments and serve notices as required to ensure compliance with the Food Act, Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Conduct enquiries and collect evidence during inspections and audits for the purpose of legal action or investigation.
- Represent the Council as an informant in any legal action against offenders.
- Seize and destroy any food or article that poses a danger to health.
- Obtain and submit for analysis food samples in accordance with the Council's food sampling program or as otherwise required.
- Investigate the outbreak of any foodborne illness or case of adulteration and liaise with the Public Health Coordinator.
