Psychosocial Support Worker – Allied Health Informed

Living It Up Community provides warm, practical and trauma-informed support to people living with psychosocial disability.

Founded and led by Bonnie, Living It Up Community was built on a belief that support should feel safe, respectful and human for participants and workers alike.

We help participants create greater safety, structure, confidence, independence and connection in everyday life. Our approach values genuine relationships, clear professional practice and consistent support that remains sustainable over time.

We are growing a thoughtful team of people who care deeply about their work and want to contribute to a service where participant dignity, professional development and worker wellbeing genuinely matter.

This role may feel right for you if you are looking for a workplace where:

- Support workers are recognised as skilled professionals

- Genuine relationships and professional boundaries work together

- Participant dignity guides everyday decisions

- Calm communication and reflective practice are valued

- Questions, guidance and constructive feedback are welcomed

- Documentation is understood as part of quality support

- You can continue developing professionally

- Good work is built through consistency, not ego

We are looking for someone grounded, emotionally intelligent and dependable who understands the importance of doing the small things well, again and again.

About the role

You will provide individual psychosocial support in participants’ homes and communities across the Mornington Peninsula and surrounding areas.

Each participant and shift is different. A typical day may involve:

- Supporting someone to establish or maintain their daily routine

- Attending an appointment or community activity

- Breaking an overwhelming task into achievable steps

- Building confidence with everyday responsibilities

- Supporting social connection and community participation

- Reinforcing an agreed strategy recommended by an occupational therapist or another member of the participant’s care team

- Providing calm, practical support during periods of distress, overwhelm or reduced functioning

- Recognising and documenting changes in functioning, support needs or risk

You will work alongside participants, helping them build skills and confidence without unnecessarily taking over.

This is a non-clinical role. You will complement, rather than replace, the work of allied health and clinical professionals.

The difference you can make

Psychosocial progress is not always loud or dramatic.

It may look like a participant:

- Attending an appointment they previously avoided

- Re-establishing a routine after a period of reduced functioning

- Starting a task with fewer prompts

- Feeling safe enough to communicate what is not working

- Reconnecting with an interest, relationship or community

- Making more everyday decisions independently

- Experiencing reliable support across different team members

These changes matter.

Your observations, communication and case notes also help the participant, LIU and their wider care team understand what support is required, what is changing and which strategies are helping.

What you will contribute

In this role, you will:

- Build safe, respectful and participant-led working relationships

- Support routines, appointments, daily living and community participation

- Help participants identify and take achievable next steps

- Encourage choice, confidence and capacity

- Apply agreed support strategies consistently in everyday settings

- Receive relevant guidance from allied health practitioners and translate it into practical support

- Observe and document functional changes, progress, barriers and support needs

- Complete accurate, respectful and timely case notes

- Communicate professionally with participants, colleagues and relevant stakeholders

- Raise concerns early through the appropriate internal process

- Contribute to continuity across the participant’s support team

- Participate in reflective practice, guidance and ongoing learning

What it is like to work with Living It Up Community

We believe workers provide their best support when they have clear expectations, reliable communication and somewhere appropriate to take questions or concerns.

Our developing workplace culture is based on:

- Calm and respectful communication

- Thoughtful participant-to-worker matching

- Structured onboarding and supported introductions

- Clear responsibilities and non-clinical scope

- Team collaboration and shared responsibility

- Reflective practice and constructive feedback

- Practical training and career development

- Reliable systems and follow-through

- Respect for worker wellbeing and sustainable practice

You will not be expected to carry complex situations alone. We value early communication, sound judgement and workers who use the support and systems available to them.

Learning and professional growth

This role provides an opportunity to strengthen your understanding of:

- Psychosocial disability and functional impact

- Trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice

- Neuroaffirming support

- Capacity-building in everyday environments

- Emotional safety and relational support

- Professional boundaries and scope

- Risk identification and safeguarding

- High-quality case-note writing

- Translating agreed allied health strategies into daily practice

As Living It Up Community grows, opportunities may arise for capable and experienced workers to contribute to participant transitions, worker mentoring, documentation quality, practice consistency, training and service development.

Future opportunities will depend on organisational needs, capability, reliability and demonstrated alignment with LIU’s standards and values.

Who may thrive here

You may feel at home at Living It Up Community if you:

- Care about the quality and purpose of your work

- Bring a calm and respectful presence to complex situations

- Build trust through reliability, consistency and genuine interest

- Balance warmth and empathy with professional judgement

- Remain curious about each person rather than making assumptions

- Can adapt your approach while following an agreed support plan

- Welcome guidance, feedback and reflective conversations

- Communicate concerns early and respectfully

- Follow through with case notes and agreed actions

- Understand that independence looks different for every participant

- Want to contribute to a thoughtful and collaborative team

Relevant lived experience is welcomed. We value the insight it can bring when accompanied by self-awareness, reflective practice and respect for each participant’s individual experience.

Experience and requirements

We welcome applications from people with relevant experience in:

- Psychosocial disability support

- Mental health or recovery-oriented services

- Disability or community support

- Community services

- Allied health environments

- Other person-centred roles involving complex support needs

Study or qualifications in occupational therapy, psychology, mental health, social work, allied health or community services will be highly regarded, but these are not the only ways to demonstrate suitability.

Applicants must hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain:

- NDIS Worker Screening Check

- Working with Children Check, where required

- Current First Aid and CPR

- Current Australian driver licence

- Access to a reliable and appropriately insured vehicle

- Australian working rights

- Any additional training or checks required for assigned services

Clear written communication and the ability to complete timely case notes are essential.

Employment arrangement

- Casual employment

- Mornington Peninsula and surrounding areas

- Services primarily delivered during weekday daytime hours

- Hours vary according to participant needs, location, availability and appropriate participant-worker matching

- Employment conditions and casual rates under the applicable SCHADS Award classification
