We are looking for an experienced Disability Support Worker to join a small, consistent team supporting a young boy in Redland Bay.
During the week we need reliable workers for before and after school, getting his morning routine, feeds and school prep done calmly and well, then supporting him through the afternoon when he's home. Weekends and public holidays the shifts are longer.
This is skilled work with a set routine and a child at the centre of it. He relies on PEG feeding and needs a worker who is confident with seizure monitoring and response.
You will not start unprepared. Before your first shift you will complete paid, participant-specific training and a competency assessment delivered by our Registered Nurses, in line with the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors.
Shifts & Roster
We roster a consistent team around him, so the pattern is predictable, and you will know your shifts well in advance:
● Monday to Friday — 4 hours per day, usually split as around 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Personal care is completed in these windows, around school. 2:1 support
● Sunday — 6 hours, 2:1 support. This shift is used flexibly, including community access, and getting out of the house.
● Public holidays — 6 hours, 2:1 support
Two things worth knowing:
● 2:1 support means two support workers are rostered together for the whole shift. You won't be managing a transfer, a feed or a seizure response on your own.
● Weekday shifts are split across a morning and an afternoon, which suits people balancing study, family or a second role but it does mean two trips in a day.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver supports in line with his Complex Care Plan, including:
● PEG feeding and enteral nutrition support
● Seizure monitoring and response,
following his epilepsy management plan
● Medication assistance as per his care plan
● Secure manual handling, transfers, positioning and pressure care
You'll also:
● Support morning and after-school routines — personal care, dressing and school readiness
● Support community access on weekend shifts, working alongside a second worker
● Monitor for any changes and escalate promptly to our nursing team
● Keep accurate, timely shift records
● Bring warmth and consistency — he does best with familiar faces and a predictable routine
Skills & Experience
You must hold (or be eligible for):
● Blue Card (Working with Children Check — QLD)
● NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card)
● Current First Aid and CPR certificates
● NDIS Worker Orientation Module — 'Quality, Safety and You'
● A current driver's licence and reliable, insured vehicle
● The right to work in Australia
You'll also bring:
● Demonstrated high intensity support experience — PEG / enteral feeding experience is essential
● Experience supporting children, ideally with cerebral palsy or complex physical disability
● Reliability — before-school shifts mean early starts, and his family depends on you turning up
● Genuine respect for his dignity, his family's role, and how they want things done in their home
● Comfort working alongside a second worker on weekend shifts
