Transport & Industrial Hydraulics is a small, locally owned and operated company that specializes in supplying and installing hydraulic equipment within the transport industry.
We are seeking a Workshop Manager to join our team in Beresfield. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of our workshop ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality standards are met while fostering continuous improvement. You will require sound knowledge of transport hydraulics, including PTO’s and pumps, basic electrical diagrams, hydraulic valves and cylinders, and ideally an understanding of truck mounted crane and tailgate loaders. You will require a willingness to learn new technology that being introduced to our industry and pass on your knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Leadership: Directly supervise workshop staff, providing guidance and support to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Lead by example with a strong focus on people management.
Assist with Workshop jobs: Carry out hydraulic installations including PTOs, pumps, cylinders, hoists, power packs, wet kits and valving, Perform hydraulic repairs such as hose replacements and cylinder resealing, Install, repair and service truck‑mounted cranes and tailgate loaders, Complete electrical tasks including wiring cranes, tailgate loaders and power packs, Conduct fault‑finding and perform annual services on cranes and tailgate loaders.
Collaboration: Work closely with management, workshop and office staff to coordinate workflow and ensure seamless operations.
Safety Compliance: Ensure workshop staff adhere to safety procedures and regulations while performing tasks.
Customer Liaison: Act as a liaison between sales staff, customers, and the workshop,
ensuring clear communication and customer satisfaction.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all workshop processes meet Australian standards. Monitor dispatch and receiving processes to ensure efficiency and timeliness.
Supplier Relations: Liaise with external suppliers when needed.
Training and Development: Conduct toolbox talks and plan daily activities for workshop personnel. Mentor and train apprentices and workshop staff to develop their skills.
Process Improvement: Develop improved processes to enhance workshop productivity. Monitor procedures and tasks for risk reduction, timeliness and safety improvements. Lead by example and monitor compliance.
Documentation and Communication: Ensure all documentation for jobs is completed accurately and finalised appropriately. Facilitate clear communication between workshop staff, office staff and customers.
Key Tasks:
Identify equipment faults and book jobs
Source and order parts/materials
Allocate hours for and monitor progress of jobs
Supervise testing and sign off on jobs
Ensure paperwork is complete for seamless invoicing
Notify/liase with customers to collect completed jobs and ensure customer satisfaction
Qualifications and Skills:
Previous experience in a workshop supervisory or leadership role.
Solid technical knowledge and understanding of workshop operations and transport hydraulics, including medium level of computer knowledge and programs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Commitment to safety and quality standards.
