About the role

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering & Platforms Team Leader to guide our engineering team through a pivotal transformation of our enterprise data systems. This role is integral to our data strategy, bridging the gap between established enterprise solutions such as Oracle and Informatica Powercenter and modern cloud analytics platforms like Snowflake and dbt. As Western Power shifts towards a federated, domain-driven architecture and operational model, you will play a crucial role in leading the team through this transition, both in terms of structure and organizational culture.

What you'll do

- Lead the engineering team in the successful implementation of our data transformation projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
- Work closely with various stakeholders, including business units and IT, to ensure that the data strategy aligns with organizational goals and architectural frameworks.
- Oversee the integration of traditional data solutions with modern cloud technologies, facilitating a seamless transition to a more agile data environment.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team, encouraging team members to explore new technologies and methodologies.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of data processes, architectures, and workflows to support transparency and knowledge sharing.
- Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance on best practices in data engineering and fostering career development.
- Collaborate with data governance teams to ensure compliance with data management policies and standards.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for enhancing our data capabilities and competitive edge.

Requirements

- At least 5 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field,



demonstrating a strong track record of success.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage teams and drive complex data projects to successful completion.
- In-depth knowledge of traditional data management tools, particularly Oracle and Informatica Powercenter, as well as familiarity with modern cloud solutions like Snowflake and dbt.
- A relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar area of study is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex data challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
