Gentrack is seeking a dynamic and experienced Software Engineer to take on the role of Team Lead in our Melbourne office. What you'll do

- Lead a team of software engineers in the design, development, and implementation of software solutions tailored for the utility and airport industries.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define project requirements and establish clear objectives for software development.
- Oversee code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices in software development, including coding standards and testing protocols.
- Facilitate agile methodologies within the team, promoting iterative development and continuous improvement.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on technical challenges and career development.
- Monitor project progress and performance, adjusting plans as necessary to meet deadlines and deliverables.
- Engage in hands-on coding and development tasks, contributing to the technical output of the team.




- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and celebrate successes, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Ensure that all software solutions are scalable, maintainable, and secure, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, integrating relevant advancements into the team's practices.
- Contribute to the development of technical documentation and user manuals to support software deployment and user training.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C#, or Python, with a robust understanding of software development frameworks.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and microservices architecture.
- Strong knowledge of database management systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, JIRA).




- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven track record of delivering software projects on time and within budget.

Nice to have

- Experience in the utility or airport management sectors is a plus.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Previous experience with mentoring or coaching junior developers.
- Understanding of data analytics and business intelligence tools.
