The Role OnSpec is seeking an experienced Petroleum Engineer – Logging Technician (Wireline Services) to join our team in Chinchilla, Queensland.

This permanent full-time role combines petroleum engineering responsibilities with specialist wireline logging operations. The successful applicant will support reservoir evaluation, drilling, well completion, production optimisation and well intervention activities while providing technical leadership during wireline field operations. The position requires a strong understanding of petroleum engineering principles together with practical experience in wireline logging services to support clients throughout exploration and production operations.

Key Responsibilities Plan, design and optimise well intervention and reservoir evaluation programs to maximise hydrocarbon recovery. Analyse geological, petrophysical and reservoir data to support drilling, completion and production decisions.

Develop engineering solutions to improve well productivity and operational efficiency. Monitor well performance and recommend remedial actions based on engineering analysis. Design and evaluate well completion and production strategies in accordance with engineering standards.

Provide technical support during drilling, completion and intervention operations. Assess operational risks and ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements.



Prepare engineering reports, technical recommendations and operational documentation.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geologists, drilling engineers and production engineers. Review operational results and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Operate wireline logging equipment to obtain accurate downhole formation and well integrity data.

Conduct open-hole and cased-hole logging operations in accordance with company procedures and client specifications. Perform equipment testing, calibration and functional checks before field operations. Interpret logging data to support reservoir evaluation and well diagnostics.

Troubleshoot wireline equipment and resolve technical issues during field activities. Coordinate rig-up and rig-down activities ensuring safe operational execution. Maintain engineering documentation, operational records and service reports.

Coordinate logistics, equipment utilisation and maintenance schedules. Prepare post-job engineering reports and communicate technical outcomes to clients.

The Ideal Candidate

Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Demonstrated experience in petroleum engineering, reservoir evaluation and wireline logging operations. Sound understanding of drilling, completion, production and well intervention engineering.

Experience interpreting wireline logging data and supporting reservoir characterisation. Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills. Knowledge of Australian Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards.

Current Australian C Class Driver Licence (essential). Forklift Licence or willingness to obtain. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
