Melbourne Grammar School Council seeks to appoint our next Head with the retirement of our current Headmaster, Mr Philip Grutzner, after a long and distinguished career in education.
At the heart of a Melbourne Grammar School education is the development of independent thinkers. We aspire for our students to contribute thoughtfully to a complex world. Stemming from the liberal tradition, we believe in a holistic approach to education, developing our young people intellectually, physically, emotionally, psychologically, socially and spiritually. The School has strong values, a healthy culture and students who achieve excellent academic outcomes. Established as an Anglican school, we are proud of our inclusivity.
Founded in 1858, we have 1,900 students including 110 boarders. Our leafy campuses have a mix of heritage buildings and purposefully designed contemporary learning spaces, including our soon to open Jack Morrow Centre for Humanities. We offer coeducational classes at our Junior School and all-boys classes for students in Years 7 – 12.
Once our students, staff and families join Melbourne Grammar School, they join our community for life. This deep connection and commitment by our community enables us to celebrate and respect our history and forebears, while being firmly focused on the continued evolution of the School to meet the present and future needs of our students. Council looks forward to working with our next Head as we collectively strive to ensure Melbourne Grammar School will offer a distinctive holistic education for many generations to come.
