About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Hardware Engineer to join our small team in Mulgrave.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop across hardware engineering. Working alongside an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer, you will receive day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship while becoming involved in the complete lifecycle of our hardware products — from concept and schematic design through to production testing, field support, and end-of-life planning.

From early in your time with us, you will be exposed to a broad range of technical challenges and given the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.

Key Responsibilities

- Schematic capture and multilayer PCB layout using Altium Designer.
- Review analogue circuits (power supply, protection circuits, and signal paths)
- Assist with component selection and BOM management.
- Learn and apply design for manufacture and design for test practices.
- Prototype, hand assembly of SMD components, and bench characterisation.
- Develop embedded firmware in C for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
- Work with peripheral drivers including I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO.
- Contribute to firmware unit test coverage.
- Assist with hardware bring-up and debugging of Linux platform peripherals.




- Investigate manufacturing test failures, yield issues, production test procedures.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics.
- 2–5 years' experience in hardware design or embedded firmware.
- Foundational PCB design experience (Altium Designer or a comparable EDA tool)
- Experience developing embedded firmware in C on microcontrollers.
- Confidence using standard bench instruments.
- A methodical approach to debugging (hypothesis, test, narrow down a fault)
- Design for manufacture and design for test practices.
- Embedded Linux skills and Python scripting skills.
- Automotive or commercial vehicle electrical environments, including 12V/24V systems, transient protection.
- Bus protocols such as J1939/CAN, Modbus, I2C, SPI, or RS-485.
- FPGA/CPLD design using VHDL or Verilog.
- Version control using Git and structured issue tracking.

Comfortable working at a bench with a soldering iron and oscilloscope probe.

Eager to learn and open to mentorship.

Methodical, detail-oriented, and comfortable documenting your work.

Someone who takes ownership and asks questions.
