About the role

This fixed term (commencing immediately and for 14 months) Parental Leave cover position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational delivery across all marketing, communications, digital and brand functions. Working closely with the executive and leadership teams, the role develops integrated communication approaches that reflect organisational priorities, support stakeholder engagement, and help translate complex workforce and skills information into clear, compelling narratives.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role leads a small team (two direct reports) and works across the organisation to strengthen the visibility, consistency and impact of Skills Insight’s marketing and communications.

It plays a key role in supporting national policy conversations, building industry awareness of critical skilling issues, and ensuring Skills Insight’s work is represented accurately, professionally and in line with our brand and strategy.

The experience we require for the suitable candidate for this role has:

Senior leadership experience in marketing and communications within complex, multi-stakeholder or government-facing environments.





Demonstrated ability to simplify and clarify complex organisational information into coherent messaging for diverse audiences.

Proven experience in government relations, public relations or public policy communication.

Proven experience and exceptional capability in writing for various marketing documentation, including externally published material.

Demonstrated experience in reviewing and editing marketing material.

Strong capability in brand development, narrative leadership and reputation management.

Expertise in modern communication practice, including digital strategy, content design and campaign development.

Experience building and managing relationships with national media outlets and journalists.

Demonstrated experience leading small high-performing teams - including building trust quickly, uplifting organisational capability, having effective/constructive conversations, managing accountability, effectively influencing key stakeholders and delivering on KPI's.

Experience using or overseeing AI-enabled communication tools, with sound governance and risk awareness.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including ability to translate technical insights into compelling messages.

Experience leading Marketing & Communications within a small and hands on working environment.

Familiarity with Jobs and Skills Council program contexts and expectations. (desirable)

Experience within the VET system,



workforce development or skills policy environments. (desirable)

Experience in member-based, public-purpose, not-for-profit or government-funded organisations. (desirable)

Formal qualification in Marketing, Communications or other (desirable)

Advanced technical agility and AI literacy - You are proficient in complex digital systems and open to using and experienced with AI tools to enhance efficiency.

Operational foresight - Your experience means you can rise above the detail and understand implications of making a change somewhere in a process, and what other relevant impacts need to be considered and managed as a result.

Rigorous record keeping - You have experience in roles where audit trails and meticulous data entry have been key responsibilities of your role.
