The Engineering Lead Future Projects will support the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Program Office (UASPO) and be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve very complex specialist engineering and program design work within an integrated workforce.They will require an in-depth knowledge of technical systems, integration requirements, program management principles, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.
They will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships across Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology, Delivery Agency and Capability Managers and will be required to identify relevant stakeholder's expectations and concerns to develop technical Program Strategies and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will work collaboratively with other Delivery SPOs, DSTG, Capability Managers and Innovation Agencies to integrate technical roadmaps into Future UASPO plans.
The EL 1 Engineering Professional will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a subject matter expert role. They will understudy the Director UAS Future Deliveries. They will exercise sound decision making and judgment to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the engineering function and technical solutions and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and integration of plans, policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.
This role has been identified as requiring access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled technology. The ITAR is United States (US) law which regulates Defence articles, including technical data, and defence services on the United States Munitions List. Access restrictions may apply on the basis of currently held/previously held citizenship, as well as current permanent residency. Defence may be able to utilise workforce exemptions to mitigate these restrictions, which generally requires that applicants provide details of all current citizenships and permanent residencies, as well as previously held citizenships. Defence collects these details to confirm an applicant’s eligibility for the role and to maintain compliance with international obligations.
The successful candidate for this role will be required to 'work in office'.
About our Team
The Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Program Office (UASPO) resides within Army Aviation Systems Branch (AASB) in Joint Aviation Systems Division (JASD) of the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG). The Program Office is comprised of a Business Management Unit (BMU), with three recently restructured teams; one focused on future capabilities, and the other two specialising on Tactical and Small UAS Delivery and Sustainment programs. UASPO are trusted to consistently and safely deliver against agreed requirements for the Capability Manager, with the best value for money outcomes. We work closely with, and are proud of the strong relationships with our Defence and Industry stakeholders. UASPO is based in Brisbane, with detachments located in Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne.

you will bring the following attributes and skills to the role:
- A highly capable EL 1 Engineering Professional with demonstrated experience delivering very complex specialist engineering work within a large, regulated organisation
- Will exercise a high degree of independence as a trusted subject matter expert, contributing to future capability development within an integrated workforce environment.
- A strong understanding of legislative frameworks, government decision making processes, and Defence mission, policy and governance requirements.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and advanced decision making capability, providing authoritative engineering and policy advice on complex and sensitive matters that may have strategic, political or operational implications for Defence.
- Possess in depth knowledge of the engineering function and be responsible for the integration of the engineering function with project management, logistics, commercial and capability management.
- Lead and contribute to complex problem solving and issues management, including coordinating detailed projects and resolving challenges that impact capability delivery and future force design
- Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership capability is essential.
Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Negative Vetting Level 1".
Mandatory Qualifications
This engineering position requires a Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualificationgained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.
This engineering position may require the individual to be able to meet the requirements of Chartered
Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia), Registered Professional Engineer (Professionals Australia)
or Fellow/Member of Royal Institution of Naval Architects or demonstrated the ability to obtain such status
within 12 months
