The Role:

We are seeking an experienced an Accountant to join our Finance team at Forster & Mayo Private Hospitals. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining balance sheet integrity, and supporting audit and compliance requirements in a complex operating environment.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who can work independently, apply sound professional judgement, and communicate effectively with both finance and non‑finance stakeholders. Note: this role may include travel commitments between the Mid North Coast and Newcastle.

About You

You are a technically capable accountant with strong attention to detail and the ability to take ownership of your work. You are confident explaining financial information and comfortable working to deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare and review month‑end and year‑end financial reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare journals, accruals, provisions, and supporting documentation
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit workpapers
- Provide variance analysis and transparent financial commentary
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls




- Provide guidance and support to junior finance and administration staff as required

You will have:

- Tertiary qualification in Commerce or similar
- Working toward CPA or CA
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial or senior accounting role
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards
- Proven experience with balance sheet reconciliations and audits
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
- Clear communication skills and a professional, proactive approach
- Experience in a healthcare, government, or regulated environment will be highly regarded
