Job Description
About the role We're looking for a Computer Network and Systems Engineer to plan, deploy and commission network infrastructure across enterprise and hyperscale data centre environments. You'll work hands-on with switching, routing and optical transport hardware, take ownership of Layer 2/3 network design and implementation, and support our clients through installation, testing, migration and troubleshooting on live projects.
Key responsibilities Analysing customer requirements, technical documentation, network designs and complex system architecture specifications to determine appropriate implementation methods and infrastructure solutions, including the development, configuration and integration of computer systems. Planning, deploying and commissioning enterprise network infrastructure within enterprise and hyperscale data centre environments.
Installing, configuring, integrating, testing and maintaining network hardware and infrastructure, including Ethernet switches, routers, optical transport equipment, servers, workstations and associated software and database applications. Designing and configuring FreeBSD and OpenBSD systems in support of network and infrastructure requirements. Implementing Layer 2 and Layer 3 network connectivity, including VLAN configuration, IP addressing, routing and network integration in accordance with project and customer requirements.
Performing network testing, fault diagnosis and troubleshooting, including the use of specialised test equipment and software, to identify and resolve network infrastructure, connectivity and performance issues, and providing specialist support for network problems and emergencies. Executing network migrations,
equipment replacements and infrastructure upgrades while minimising disruption to production services. Researching, evaluating and monitoring network infrastructure, traffic, activity, capacity and usage to ensure networks continue to operate at optimal performance and integrity, and assessing and recommending improvements to network operations and integrated hardware, software, communications and operating systems.
Providing network programming in support of specific business needs and requirements. Working closely with project managers, customer representatives, vendors and other engineering teams to coordinate project implementation activities and ensure successful project delivery. Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, installation records, network inventory, test results and as-built documentation, and recording the diagnosis and resolution of network faults, enhancements and modifications to networks, in accordance with company procedures and customer standards.
Ensuring that all installation, commissioning and maintenance activities comply with applicable technical specifications, quality standards and workplace health and safety requirements. Performing such other duties as the Employer may allocate from time to time.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering or a related engineering discipline Strong working knowledge of enterprise networking (switching, routing, VLANs, IP addressing) Experience with FreeBSD and/or OpenBSD systems administration
Experience working in large scale data centres Hand on experience with fibre, fibre termination and testing Comfortable working on-site in data centre environments, including practical completion support
Strong documentation habits and explicit communication with clients and internal teams
