Independent Technical Assessor – Recreational Vehicles

We are seeking an experienced caravan industry professional to provide independent technical assessments and expert reports relating to consumer disputes, warranty claims, product failures, fit-for-purpose concerns, and quality issues involving recreational vehicles and caravans.

Working on a contract basis, you will conduct inspections, investigate technical concerns, assess compliance with industry standards and manufacturer specifications, and prepare clear, evidence-based reports to assist dealers, consumers, regulatory agencies, and dispute resolution processes.

This role offers flexible working arrangements and would suit a semi-retired industry qualified, service manager, technician, manufacturer representative, engineer, or highly experienced caravan industry specialist.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct independent inspections of caravans, RVs and associated products.

Investigate alleged manufacturing defects, workmanship concerns, component failures and warranty issues.

Assess whether products are fit for purpose and meet reasonable consumer expectations.

Review repair histories, service records, photographs and supporting documentation.

Identify likely causes of faults and recommend appropriate rectification measures.

Prepare professional written reports detailing findings, conclusions and supporting evidence.

Provide technical advice relating to consumer complaints and dispute resolution matters.

Liaise professionally with dealers, manufacturers, consumers and regulatory agencies when required.





Maintain impartiality and independence in all assessments.

Significant experience within the caravan, RV, automotive, manufacturing, engineering or related industry.

Strong technical knowledge of caravan construction, systems, components and accessories.

Ability to identify manufacturing defects, installation issues, wear and tear, misuse and maintenance-related concerns.

Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.

Strong attention to detail and analytical capability.

Ability to work independently and manage inspections across multiple locations.

Current driver's licence.

Ability to analyse a report generated by another party, providing counter arguments, anchoring repairs in reality and fairness.

Ability to attend QCAT and other related hearings to present their report & findings.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Trade qualification in recreational vehicles, automotive, engineering, electrical, plumbing, cabinetmaking or related field.

Experience in warranty assessment, quality assurance, compliance, technical inspections or dispute resolution.

Knowledge of Australian Consumer Law and consumer guarantee provisions.

Experience preparing expert reports for tribunals, insurers, regulators or legal proceedings.
