About the role
We are seeking a talented Solicitor - Criminal Law to join our legal team on a full-time basis in Cairns, Queensland . This is an exciting prospect to play a key role in delivering high-quality criminal law services to our diverse client base. As a Criminal Law Solicitor, you will provide strategic legal advice, conduct client representations, and manage complex criminal matters from initial consultation through to resolution. This position offers the chance to develop your expertise in criminal law whilst working alongside experienced practitioners in a collaborative and professional environment.
Key responsibilities
- Providing comprehensive legal advice to clients on criminal law and domestic violence related matters, including investigations, charges, and proceedings
- Representing clients at court proceedings, preliminary hearings, and other legal forums
- Drafting legal documents, applications, and submissions relevant to criminal matters
- Conducting client interviews and case consultations to gather information and develop case strategies
- Liaising with clients, police, prosecutors, and other stakeholders to progress matters efficiently
- Researching criminal law precedents and legislation to support case preparation and advice
- Managing caseload effectively whilst maintaining skilled standards and meeting deadlines
- Contributing to the firm's criminal law practice through collaboration with colleagues and sharing knowledge
What we’re looking for
- A practising certificate as a solicitor in Queensland or the ability to obtain one
- Experience in a criminal law practice preferred
- Sound knowledge of criminal law, criminal procedure and domestic violence applications
- Demonstrated advocacy and client representation skills
- Strong written and oral communication abilities
- Excellent legal research and analytical skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and organisational skills to manage multiple matters
