Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Ovens Murray region. Our work is guided by principles of self‑determination, cultural respect, community leadership and improved wellbeing for Aboriginal families and communities.
We are seeking a passionate and community-minded Community Support Worker to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to remain connected, independent and engaged through our Healthy Ageing Program and HACC Program for Younger People (HACC PYP).
About the Role
Reporting to the Community Support Services Manager, the Community Support Worker provides culturally safe, strengths-based support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members participating in the Healthy Ageing Program and HACC Program for Younger People (HACC PYP). The role focuses on enhancing wellbeing, independence, social participation and access to services through community engagement, advocacy, service navigation and referral support.
Working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled framework, you will build strong relationships with Elders, community members, families and service providers to connect individuals with appropriate supports, promote healthy ageing and wellbeing, and strengthen connections to culture, family, community and Country. The role contributes to positive outcomes for clients by supporting participation in community activities, improving access to services and empowering individuals to achieve their personal goals and maintain independence.
Key Responsibilities
As a Community Support Worker, you will:
- Deliver culturally safe, strengths-based support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members participating in the Healthy Ageing Program and HACC Program for Younger People (HACC PYP).
- Support clients to access health, wellbeing, aged care, disability and community services through advocacy, referrals and service navigation.
- Facilitate community participation, wellbeing activities and social connection opportunities that promote independence and quality of life.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with clients, families, Elders, community members and key service providers.
- Work collaboratively with internal programs, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated and responsive support.
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, program data and reports in accordance with organisational, funding and legislative requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, quality assurance activities and program development initiatives.
- Promote cultural safety, self-determination and community-led approaches in all aspects of service delivery.

Key Selection Criteria
- Certificate IV in Community Services, Community Development, Youth Work, Aboriginal Health, Mental Health, Aged Care, Disability, Health Promotion or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of qualifications, skills and experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, cultural safety and self-determination principles.
- Experience supporting the planning and delivery of community programs, activities or wellbeing initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with community members across different age groups.
- Well-developed communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to plan, organise and coordinate activities and events.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting requirements.
- Experience maintaining records, collecting program data and preparing reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and client management systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, community-led and strengths-based practice.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, complex caseloads and time-sensitive matters.
- Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
- Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.
- Experience in community support, healthy ageing, disability, community development, wellbeing or health promotion programs.
- Understanding of HACC PYP, healthy ageing, community wellbeing and social inclusion frameworks.
- Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
