You will utilize manual, semi-automated, and fully automated techniques involving multiple steps and moderate complexity.

This role requires a high degree of technical competence in interpreting analytical data, troubleshooting instrumentation and methods, performing calculations, and authorizing test result batches in full accordance with established laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

This is a permanent full time afternoon shift position.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality & Compliance

- Apply the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Accurately utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and associated laboratory software.
- Conduct all testing in strict accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), validated methods, and quality standards.
- Review, verify, and authorise analytical results in line with laboratory procedures.




- Understand and apply the principles of measurement uncertainty and quality assurance (QA).

2. Technical & Operations

- Perform routine and specialised analytical testing using techniques and instrumentation including chromatography, spectrometric techniques, electrometric techniques, nutrient analysis, ingredient composition analysis, and contaminant testing.
- Interpret analytical data and perform associated calculations with a high level of accuracy.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation, analytical methods, and testing processes to resolve technical issues.
- Undertake routine calibration, maintenance, and performance checks of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Effectively prioritise workloads to ensure testing deadlines and operational requirements are achieved.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve problems of moderate complexity using technical expertise and sound judgment.
- Authorise and release batches of results following assessment of quality assurance and control (QA/QC) data.

3. Teamwork & Leadership

- Contribute to team leadership activities, including risk assessments and the review of SOPs.
- Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to other employees as required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support operational and business objectives.

- Perform all duties in strict compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain secure laboratory practices and actively contribute to a safety-first workplace culture.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

- Education: Tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Technical: Demonstrated experience operating analytical instrumentation, specifically HPLC, GC, LC-MS, and GC-MS .
- Methodology: Ability to perform complex sample preparation techniques accurately and efficiently.
- Theory & Troubleshooting: Strong understanding of chemical principles and analytical instrumentation, with proven ability to troubleshoot technical and equipment issues.
- Systems: Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and laboratory software applications.
- Quality Standards: Understanding of NATA and TGA requirements, including hands‑on experience working in accordance with GLP and GMP standards.
- Environment: Demonstrated hands‑on experience working efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑throughput laboratory environment.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent time management, well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Safety & Leadership: Demonstrated understanding of WHS standards, combined with team building, mentoring, and continuous improvement capabilities.

Desirable:

- Industry Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ laboratory experience, preferably within food, dairy, or related testing environments.
- Specialised Testing: Direct experience in pesticide residue testing.
