Anglican Deaconess Ministries (ADM)
Location: Sydney CBD, NSW
Location type: On-Site
Date advertised: 4th August 2026
Job Type: Full time, Part time, Permanent
Closing Date: 31st August 2026

Passionate about mental health and the church?

This is a role for someone with significant ministry experience who cares deeply about seeing people in churches supported well in the midst of mental health challenges. As the Ministry Resources Officer, you’ll help shape resources that equip churches with wisdom, compassion, and practical tools. Working closely with the Head of the Institute, you’ll bring ideas to life through writing, research, coordination, and collaboration—helping ensure the work of the Institute is both theologically grounded and practically useful.

What you'll do:

The Ministry Resources Officer plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Mental Health Institute (MHI) by helping churches and Christians support mental health and wellbeing with an informed and compassionate response. You don’t need to be a mental health expert, but we are looking for someone with ministry experience who has seen firsthand the need for theologically informed mental health resources.

Working closely with the Head of the Institute, this role combines resource development, research, project coordination, audience engagement, event and operational support. We are looking for a capable and adaptable generalist who enjoys turning ideas into action. The successful candidate will be a strong writer, researcher, organiser, and project coordinator who can work collaboratively, take initiative, and develop high-quality and practical resources that serve churches, ministry workers, and the broader Christian community.

Grounded in evangelical Christian theology, informed by psychological research, and committed to excellence in ministry, the Ministry Resource Officer will contribute to the growth and impact of the Institute while supporting its day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting the Head of the MHI in equipping and resourcing Churches in the areas of mental wellbeing, mental illness, and pastoral and practical care.

Assist in the creation and delivery of resources that promote mental wellbeing and support Christians experiencing mental health challenges.

Assist in the planning and execution of up to six events per year for ministry workers and Christians to increase awareness and knowledge and reduce stigma around mental health and mental illness in Christian contexts. (Please note that these events often take place in the evening).

Assist in the planning of professional development for ministry workers and Christians working in mental health and educational settings.

Assist in the management of operational and administrative tasks relating to the work of the Institute including communications, marketing,

and engaging with users (including churches and individuals).

Support engagement with churches, clinicians, and the broader community to identify and understand emerging mental health trends and challenges.

Collaborate with the Head of the Institute in market research in the areas of mental health and pastoral care.

The Ministry Resources Officer will need to fulfil other duties as required by this position and must adhere to ADM Policies and Procedures.

What you bring:

- Qualification in theology.
- Five or more years experience in pastoral ministry or similar. An understanding of ministry contexts, the needs of churches, and the need for theologically informed mental health resources.
- The successful candidate does not need to be a mental health expert but should demonstrate intellectual curiosity, strong learning agility, and the ability to quickly understand and communicate complex ideas.
- Demonstrated ability to research, synthesise, and communicate complex ideas for a broad audience.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage projects independently, take ownership of tasks, and follow through to completion.
- Alignment with ADM’s mission, vision, values, and theological principles.
- Mature Christian who is a regular member of a church community
- Qualification or five or more years of experience in counselling, social work, psychology, chaplaincy, or related fields.
- Experience in adult education or training.
- Experience conducting research or literature reviews.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency, including confidence using digital tools for research, writing, communications, resource development, and project coordination.

What We Offer:

- Benchmark policies for Parental Leave and Flexible work.
- Opportunities for professional growth and meaningful impact.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land upon which Anglican churches, schools and organisations meet and serve
from the Hawkesbury River south to Ulladulla and Sutton Forest, and west to the Blue Mountains and Lithgow.
We acknowledge and pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging,
and pray that God will unite us all in a knowledge of his Son, in whom all things were created.
