As such, a brand-new position has been created for an Automation & Robotics Technician to join their growing team.

The Opportunity

As an Automation Technician, you'll play a key role in the assembly, installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of advanced robotic and industrial automation systems. Supplementing the existing team of Mechanical, Automation and Controls Engineers to allow them to focus more of their time on design related activities. This is a hands-on role suited to a trade-qualified Maintenance Fitter or Electrician who enjoys solving technical problems and working with leading-edge automation technology. The role is primarily workshop-based in Melbourne but also includes installation, commissioning and service work at customer sites throughout Australia.

Key Responsibilities





- Assemble robotic and industrial automation systems utilizing hands-on mechanical fitting and assembly skills. Including installation of pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical components.
- Manufacture and wire industrial electrical control cabinets and wire PLC I/O, sensors, motors, drives, actuators and associated field devices.
- Ensure all equipment is assembled to a high standard and conduct internal testing prior to commissioning.
- Travel to customer sites throughout Australia to install and commission equipment. Assist with robot setup, basic programming and testing.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and control system faults during commissioning.
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on automation systems and assist customers with machine operation, maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop organisation.
- Support warranty and after-sales service activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.

Candidate Requirements





You'll be a proactive technician who enjoys finding smarter ways of working and takes ownership of equipment performance.

Qualifications and experience:

- Trade qualified - Cert III Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance Fitter or equivalent), or Certificate III Electrotechnology Electrician, or Electrical Connect/Disconnect qualification with significant industrial maintenance experience.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.

- Current Electrical Licence (where applicable), Highly desirable.

- Experience assembling industrial machinery or automation equipment and Industrial electrical wiring experience, Essential.
- Mechanical fitting and machine assembly experience and PLC field wiring and control panel wiring experience, Essential.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems experience, highly desirable.
- Basic PLC troubleshooting, highly desirable.
- Experience commissioning industrial machinery, highly desirable.
