Our client is a major public‑sector organisation responsible for managing and maintaining key infrastructure assets across Brisbane. They are known for structured processes, strong contractor relationships, and a commitment to delivering safe, compliant works.
With a team member currently on leave, they are seeking an experienced Project Engineer for an immediate start to provide short‑term support across two active bridge maintenance projects. This is a well‑organised setting where your engineering oversight and ability to work autonomously will be highly valued.
The Opportunity
This temporary 6+ week role offers the chance to step into two established projects at Kangaroo Point and the Story Bridge. All project documentation, ITPs, and traffic control requirements have already been set up - your focus will be on oversight, compliance, and coordination with the principal contractor.
You’ll act as the primary liaison for contractor activities, review ITPs, conduct site inspections, and ensure works are delivered in line with council standards. The work includes oversight of maintenance activities on the William Jolly Bridge and supervision of centre‑span works on the Story Bridge, including painting and access via knuckle‑boom equipment. Limited night work may be required.
The role offers a blend of office, site, and work‑from‑home flexibility, with standard hours of 36.25 per week.
About You
You’re a mid‑level Project Engineer with 5–10 years’ experience in civil or structural engineering, ideally with exposure to bridges, structures, or public infrastructure. You’re confident working independently, comfortable overseeing contractor activities, and able to maintain compliance across active works.
You’ll also bring:
- Experience within government, council, or public‑sector environments (preferred)
- Strong understanding of ITPs and contractor oversight
- Confidence conducting site inspections, including occasional night works
- The ability to manage responsibilities autonomously with support available from council staff
- Clear communication skills and a practical, organised approach
Why Apply?
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to essential public‑sector infrastructure projects while stepping into a well‑structured environment. You’ll benefit from:
- Established project documentation and processes already in place
- Exposure to two significant Brisbane bridge assets
- A mix of office, site, and WFH flexibility
- Support from an experienced council teamApply Now
If you’re an experienced Project Engineer with relevant structural or civil background and can start immediately, we’d love to hear from you.
