An exciting and rare opportunity has become available for an Engineering Manager - Design & Precontracts to join Downers Energy & Utilities business unit. This role may be located QLD, NSW or VIC.

The opportunity

The Engineering Design Management & Pre-Contracts is responsible for all engineering management activities including reporting of engineering delivery progress and costs tracking to Power Projects management, in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule. The successful incumbent can envision themselves attending to duties such as:

What you'll do

- Deliver and report design outcomes and status to key stakeholders including the Client and Power Projects Leadership
- Work closely with both Engineering Manger Transmission Lines and Substations & BESS to deliver projects
- Responsible, in coordination with the Engineering Managers, for out-sourcing design works to subcontractors
- Coordinate and manage all design activities internally and with consultants, ensure that the technical solution provided is consistent with project brief, budget and capable of meeting client expectation
- Participates in all aspects of quality control, including reviewing requirements, developing test structures (concepts, plans and cases) and testing the product
- Manage the work performance of self and direct reports to ensure objectives and milestones are achieved
- Ensure agreed standards, formats and deliverable timeframes are maintained
- Make decisions within the guidelines established by Downer policies, practices and procedures and the relevant Awards, Acts, Regulations and Agreements

What we're looking for

- Degree qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline
- MIEAust, CPEng and National Engineering Register (NER) accreditation
- PMP, AIPM or equivalent project management certification highly regarded
- Minimum 15 years leading an engineering team, preferably within substations, transmission lines sector
- Exceptional leadership and team development capability
- The ability to make sound decisions under pressure
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance technical excellence with project performance objectives
- Sound knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices
- Extensive experience in contractual, commercial and risk management
