Role Summary

The Staff Specialist will deliver high-quality diagnostic and consultative speciality services within the integrated Department of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM). The Staff Specialist will have advanced expertise in gynaecological ultrasound, particularly in the assessment of deep infiltrating endometriosis and complex gynae-oncology cases. A special interest in prenatal genomics is also essential, with the aim of contributing to the expansion and advancement of Departmental genomic services.

The Staff Specialist will play a key role in the provision of tertiary-level fetal medicine services, including the interpretation and reporting of obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations, supervision of sonographers, and counselling of patients. The role will provide expert fetal medicine consultation and support across Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Charles Perkins Centre, and Canterbury Hospital.

They will uphold the highest standards of professional practice while fostering an academic environment that promotes education, research, and ongoing professional development. In addition, the incumbent will contribute to quality improvement initiatives and administrative activities as directed by the Department Head and the Sydney Local Health District.

To be employed by NSW Health, you are required to provide evidence of current immunity status that complies with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality diagnostic and consultative speciality services within the integrated Department of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM).
- Provide advanced expertise in gynaecological ultrasound, particularly assessment of deep infiltrating endometriosis and complex gynae-oncology cases.
- Contribute to the expansion and advancement of Departmental genomic services in prenatal genomics.
- Provide expert fetal medicine consultation and support across RPAH, Charles Perkins Centre, and Canterbury Hospital.
- Interpret and report obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations.
- Supervise sonographers.
- Counsel patients.
- Uphold professional practice standards.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and administrative activities as directed.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Medical practitioner, registered or eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).
- Subspecialist certification in either Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound (COGU)



or Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM), or nationally selected for this subspecialist certification with the goal of achieving certification within the next few years.
- Recognised qualifications in diagnostic ultrasound, such as the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU).
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving this qualification within the next few years.
- Eligibility to provide evidence of current immunity status that complies with NSW Health policy.

Contract and Working Hours

Employment Type: Temporary Part Time up to January 2027.

Salary and Conditions

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
