West Coast Machining Services is seeking an experienced CNC Workshop Operations Manager to join our team in Bentley, Western Australia. This is a full-time position that offers a fantastic opportunity to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of our dynamic CNC machining workshop. You will be responsible for overseeing production schedules, managing a small skilled team of machinists, and ensuring the efficient delivery of precision engineering services. This role is critical to maintaining our reputation for quality and reliability in the trades and services sector, with a direct impact on our business growth and operational excellence.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all CNC workshop operations, including production planning, quoting, scheduling and workflow optimisation
- Supervise and mentor small team of CNC machinists, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards
- Review work orders, technical drawings and specifications to establish production priorities and timelines
- Quality assurance oversight, when needed conduct inspections and ensuring all finished components meet client specifications and quality benchmarks
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement improvements to boost productivity and reduce costs
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and other departments to ensure seamless communication and project coordination
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies and industry best practices
- Manage inventory of tools, materials and spare parts, liaising with procurement as needed
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist
- Strong Technical knowledge of CNC machines, turning, milling operations
- Experience managing and leading teams of skilled trades people, with the ability to motivate and develop staff
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings, blueprints and specifications
- Experience with production planning, scheduling software and inventory management systems
- Sound understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to workshop environments
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organisation
- Problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational challenges
- Relevant qualifications such as a trade certificate in machining, fitting or turning, or formal management qualifications are highly desirable
- Experience with quality assurance processes and continuous improvement methodologies is advantageous
