About the role

An exciting opportunity has come up to join Merri-bek Libraries. This is a permanent full time role based at Brunswick and Campbell Turnbull Libraries.

The Children’s and Youth Services Librarian role is responsible for providing targeted library and information services to children and young people, promoting early literacy, supporting and mentoring members of the children’s and youth team, assisting with the collection development of the children and youth collections, providing outreach to local schools, kindergartens, day care centres and other places where our families and young people gather, and providing culturally safe programming for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including the inclusion of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung language and storytelling opportunities.

Skills and experience required to perform the role

- Abilitytoconsistentlylead,motivateandcoachstaffandtogainthecooperationandsupportof team members to achieve team goals andobjectives.
- Demonstratedexperienceinorganising community-basedprogramsandservicesto targeted groups.
- Demonstratedexperienceininformationprovisionandcollectionmanagement.
- Demonstrated customer service experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the library setting.
- A current Working with Children Check.
