Job Description

We are looking for a Trades or Technical individual, ideally with a mechanical background, to join our facilities team as a Data Centre Technician operating on a 24/7 rotating shift roster. The role offers full on‑the‑job training in data centre facility management and critical infrastructure, including mechanical systems (cooling infrastructure, HVAC, chillers), electrical distribution, cabling, building monitoring, and fire protection systems.

The successful candidate will work a 4–5–5 rotating shift roster: day shifts from 7 am to 7 pm and night shifts from 7 pm to 7 am. From time to time, travel between sites may be required during shifts.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with vendor management for maintenance of all core mechanical and electrical systems
- Manage and support critical cooling infrastructure (CRAC, chillers, HVAC)
- Support 24/7 critical operations through monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting,



and timely incident escalation to meet uptime commitments
- Attend to Remote Hands requests
- Collaborate with internal teams and customers to deliver seamless operations and support installations
- Ensure all visitors and contractors adhere to NEXTDC facility rules
- Manual handling

This role is not focused on IT but instead centers on hands‑on facility operations, mechanical system reliability, and critical infrastructure support.

Qualifications

- Engineering background (Mechanical or Electrical) or Trade Certification (desirable)
- Mechanical/HVAC/electrical/building services background (highly regarded)
- Basic data centre and cabling knowledge (desirable)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Solid customer service, communication skills, and proactive attitude
- Australian Citizenship required (security clearance)
