Brisbane | Full time | Accounting and Advisory Practice

Some roles are executive. Some are key person hires. This one is both.

Our client is a Brisbane practice with nearly 50 years of history. The current owner acquired the firm a decade ago and has grown it fivefold into a profitable, well-established business servicing clients from individuals through to companies turning over up to $30 million.

The practice is now making a deliberate, funded transition from compliance‑led work toward proactive advisory and complex tax. That transition needs an operational leader to run the practice while the owner leads the strategy.

The role

You will take full operational ownership of the firm: workflow, team, client delivery and standards. This is not a practice manager role with a bigger title. Within 12 months, the expectation is that you step into a genuine second‑in‑command position alongside the owner, with real influence over the direction of the business.

What you will own

- Day‑to‑day leadership of the accounting team and workflow across the practice
- Client delivery standards, from compliance through to advisory engagements




- Capacity planning, productivity and the operating rhythm of the firm
- Developing senior accountants into future leaders
- Working directly with the owner on the shift from compliance to advisory

Who this suits

You are likely a senior accountant, client manager or practice leader in public practice who has outgrown your current ceiling. You are CA or CPA qualified, technically credible across tax and compliance, and you have led people, not just jobs. You want ownership of outcomes, a direct line to the decision maker, and a business small enough to shape but established enough to matter.

If you are looking for a title without the accountability, this is not your role.

Why this role

Most GM roles in accounting are caretaker positions. This one has a mandate: run the practice, build the team, and earn a seat beside the owner as the firm changes what it sells. The business is profitable, the transition is funded, and the owner knows exactly what he is hiring for.
