Disability Support Worker – Sydney North Shore

Hornsby, Forestville, Chatswood, Lindfield and Lane Cove

Field Day Disability Support is looking for warm, reliable and capable support workers to join our team across Sydney’s North Shore.

We currently have participants requiring support in:

- Hornsby

- Forestville

- Chatswood

- Lindfield

- Lane Cove and surrounding suburbs

These roles involve supporting neurodiverse children, teenagers and young adults to build confidence, independence and everyday skills through consistent, relationship-based support.

This is not simply “sit and supervise” work. We are looking for people who can build genuine rapport, use initiative and make everyday routines, activities and capacity-building feel natural and engaging.

About the roles

Every participant is different, but support may include:

- Building rapport through shared interests and age-appropriate activities

- After-school and evening support

- Morning routine and school preparation

- Community access and recreational activities

- Public transport training

- Meal preparation and daily living skills

- Supporting household routines

- Personal care prompting or assistance

- Building confidence and independence

- Supporting emotional regulation and transitions

- Reinforcing strategies recommended by parents, therapists or behaviour-support practitioners

- Providing support on weekends

- Transporting participants to activities or appointments

The focus is on helping participants take an active role in their routines and goals—not simply completing tasks for them.

Hours and availability

We have a range of regular weekly shifts available across the North Shore, including:

- Before-school mornings

- After-school afternoons

- Early evenings

- Saturdays and Sundays

- School holiday support

Most shifts are approximately two to five hours.

Applicants do not need to be available for every shift.



Please clearly outline your regular availability and the North Shore suburbs you can reliably travel to.

Families are looking for consistency, so these roles are best suited to applicants who can commit to regular weekly support for at least 6–12 months.

The right person will be

- Warm, friendly and genuinely interested in getting to know participants

- Calm and emotionally mature

- Reliable, punctual and consistent

- Comfortable building rapport before placing demands

- Able to use initiative without needing to be micromanaged

- Patient when a participant says no, withdraws or needs more time

- Confident supporting routines, transitions and community activities

- Comfortable following guidance from parents and allied health professionals

- Able to make skill-building feel natural rather than clinical

- Open to feedback and willing to continue learning

- Comfortable working independently while communicating proactively

- Interested in building a meaningful, long-term relationship with a participant and family

Experience in disability support is highly regarded, but we also value applicants with strong experience in:

- Babysitting or nannying

- Childcare

- Youth work or mentoring

- Teaching or learning support

- Sports coaching

- Community volunteering

- Mental health support

Study in Psychology, Nursing, Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work or a related field is also highly regarded.

Essential requirements

Applicants must have or be willing to obtain:

- Working With Children Check

- NDIS Worker Screening Check

- National Police Check

- First Aid and CPR certification

- Australian driver’s licence

- Reliable car

- Comprehensive vehicle insurance

- Robust professional boundaries and a child-safe approach





- Availability to commit to regular ongoing shifts

A car and driver’s licence are essential, as many roles involve transporting participants or travelling between homes, schools and community activities.
