Cadet Estimator / Junior Estimator (Part-Time)

About Us

Mat Brown Building is an established commercial building company delivering projects for local councils, schools, government and commercial clients throughout the Hunter Region.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Cadet Estimator / Junior Estimator to join our team.

This role is ideal for someone currently completing a degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building, Project Management or a similar discipline, or a recent graduate looking to kick‑start their career.

You’ll work alongside experienced construction professionals and gain hands‑on exposure to the entire project lifecycle, with genuine opportunities to develop into a Project Manager or Site Supervisor in the future.

About the Role

Your primary focus will be assisting with the preparation of commercial tenders and estimates for projects ranging from maintenance works through to multi‑million‑dollar developments.

Responsibilities include:

- Preparing quantity take-offs from plans and specifications
- Assisting with the preparation of detailed cost estimates and tenders
- Obtaining and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Preparing tender submissions and supporting documentation
- Maintaining estimating spreadsheets and project cost information




- Assisting with project administration as required
- Learning estimating software and internal business systems
- Providing support to our project delivery team

As your skills and confidence develop, you’ll have the chance to become involved in overall project delivery from start to finish.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, organised and eager to build a long‑term career in the construction industry.

You’ll ideally have:

- Current enrolment in, or recent completion of, a degree in Construction Management, Building, Quantity Surveying, Project Management or similar
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Confidence using technology and the ability to quickly learn new software
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Good written and verbal communication
- The ability to prioritise tasks and work independently
- A genuine interest in commercial construction and estimating

Previous construction industry experience is highly regarded but not essential.
