JR is a family-owned local business specialising in retaining walls and exterior construction throughout Newcastle, Maitland and the Hunter Valley.

Led by Rick, a fully qualified and licensed builder, and Justin, who brings extensive earthmoving experience, JR combines specialist knowledge with quality equipment to deliver a wide variety of structural landscaping and construction projects.

At JR, you’ll gain experience on engineered retaining walls and structural landscaping projects, not just garden maintenance; giving you valuable skills across both landscaping and construction.

We take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and providing reliable, professional service to our clients. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking apprentice who is eager to learn, enjoys working outdoors, and wants to build a long-term career in the construction industry.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an apprentice,



you’ll gain hands on experience across a wide range of structural landscaping and construction projects, including:

- Constructing a variety of retaining walls
- Preparing slabs, footings and tying steel for concrete
- Learning surveying, levelling and excavation techniques
- Handling, placing and finishing concrete
- Turf and paving preparation
- Planting and irrigation
- Mowing, spraying, slashing, trimming, fertilising and watering when required
- Reading site drawings and engineering details
- Working alongside other contractors and trades
- Moving materials and assisting with site preparation
- Developing practical skills across all aspects of structural landscaping and construction

No two days are the same, giving you the chance to develop a broad range of practical skills while working on diverse projects across the Hunter region.
