Salary Range: Base Salary $ 38,504 - $52,484 per annum + super, based on schooling level completion, years out of school and age upon commencement.

Apprentice Parks and Gardens – Certificate III in Sports and Turf Management
Are you looking to kick start your career? Obtain a Nationally Recognised Qualification that will give you the skills to take you anywhere! Townsville City Council is currently seeking applications for the 2027 Apprenticeship intake!
Build an exciting outdoor career with a hands‑on Apprenticeship in Sports and Turf Management, working behind the scenes at one of Townsville’s premier sporting precincts. Under the guidance of experienced turf professionals, you will develop specialist skills through a competency‑based program that combines formal training with real‑world, on‑the‑job learning.
You will play a key role in the preparation, development and ongoing maintenance of the Riverway sporting fields and Riverway Stadium, helping deliver competition‑ready surfaces for high‑profile events. This includes maintaining cricket wickets, AFL playing surfaces and surrounding parklands, as well as assisting with turf preparation and presentation for major sporting and community events held at Riverway.
This apprenticeship includes completing a 3‑year Certificate III in Sports and Turf Management through TAFE North Queensland, providing you with a nationally recognised qualification and a strong foundation for a rewarding career in the sports turf industry.

This position will commence in February 2027.
Qualifications And Experience
In an ideal applicant, we are looking for:
- Willingness to be part of, and promote, a positive safety culture whilst adhering to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Minimum completed of Year 10 with passes in English and Mathematics.
- Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers’ licence (or ability to obtain).
- Sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively and be positively involved within a team environment.
- Complete all training and assessment requirements of a Certificate III in Sports and Turf Management as per the provided training plan. This includes attending and participating in structured formal learning at the nominated Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as well as keeping an accurate and up to date training record book.
