The Canberra Hospital is central training site of the rotational scheme. The Canberra Hospital is a modern 600 bed hospital and the major tertiary teaching hospital for the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding NSW region serving a population of 1.0 million. The annual surgical caseload is over 19,000.

Canberra Health Services have positions for 34 Registrars and at least 4 Senior Registrars (Provisional Fellows). The Department of Anaesthesia, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management at Canberra Health Services provide a comprehensive range of clinical anaesthesia services for all surgical specialties outside of solid organ transplantation and major burns. This includes cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery and paediatric surgery along with an active preadmission clinic, and an acute and chronic pain management service.

The hospital has 24 operating theatres (including a dedicated MRI neuroanaesthesia suite) and a 36-bed intensive care unit. The new clinical services building opened in August 2024 and contains state of the art operating theatres. In addition,

the Department of Anaesthesia services several out-of-areas requirements for general anaesthesia or sedation.

North Canberra Public Hospital is accredited for six Registrars and is the second local hospital included in the training rotation. It is a contemporary healthcare complex comprising a 174-bed public district general hospital.

Both hospitals are teaching hospitals of the Australian National University (ANU) School of Medicine and Psychology and have strong research links to the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the ANU as well as to the University of Canberra.

Albury Wodonga Health and Wagga Wagga Base Hospital currently participate in the Canberra Region Rotation Registrar Training Program, with South East Regional Hospital, Bega, a potential addition from 2027. All sites provide acute and community healthcare, including subspecialty surgery. Trainees have access to ANZCA‑accredited satellite placements at National Capital Private Hospital, Calvary John James Private Hospital, and Calvary Bruce Private Hospital.

- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy
