Electrical or Senior Engineer - Power Systems Consultant
Jacobs is looking for an Electrical or Senior Engineer - Power Systems Consultant ideally with minimum 3-5 years’ experience to join our T&D; team.
This role is suited to engineers ready to take the next step: you will work across steady-state and dynamic power system modelling and analysis through to earthing and EMT studies, while developing your technical depth and confidence in consulting delivery.
If you are the kind of engineer who enjoys applying modern tools especially AI and emerging technologies to solve real engineering problems, you will feel right at home here. We highly value professionals who can combine strong fundamentals with practical innovation to deliver faster insights, smarter workflows, and high-quality outcomes. You will be well supported by a highly experienced team and have the prospect to contribute to major Australian and global energy transition projects, while building your technical depth and client-facing confidence in a collaborative, high-trust environment.
What you will do:
You will contribute to consulting projects across a diverse technical portfolio, including:
Applying power system fundamentals to practical challenges (operations, protection interactions, compliance)
Supporting and progressively leading steady-state and dynamic modelling / analysis
Producing clear, high-quality outputs: calculations, models, reports, and presentations
Delivering and supporting engineering studies in earthing and EMT (safety-critical outcomes)
Collaborating with senior engineers and specialists to learn best-practice methods and build technical ownership
Using AI / emerging technologies where appropriate to improve efficiency and quality (e.g., automating repetitive tasks, accelerating analysis workflows, improving documentation quality, and extracting insights from data)
Client-facing capability - and supported
This is a hybrid engineering and consulting role, so a client-facing mindset is highly desirable. You don’t need to have everything mastered; we will support you to grow.
We value engineers who can:
Communicate complex technical outcomes clearly and confidently
Ask the right questions to understand client needs and constraints
Participate in meetings, present findings, and contribute to trusted client relationships
And we support your growth through:
Mentoring from senior engineers and consultants
Opportunities to progressively take on client engagement responsibilities
Feedback and coaching on communication, presentation, and consulting delivery
Here's what you'll need
We are hiring for the right talent and attitude - someone who is curious, rigorous, and ready to grow.
You will have:
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent engineering discipline). Ideally working towards or holding Chartered status with Engineers Australia (or equivalent).
- A solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, basic physics, and control system fundamentals.
- Strong fundamentals in circuit theory and electromagnetism, applied to: power system earthing, system operation and protection considerations and, critically, safety
- A demonstrated willingness to learn and grow, including taking on new technical and client-facing responsibilities.
- Resilience and adaptability to work across diverse tasks from advanced power system modelling and analysis to earthing and EMT studies.
- Experience or exposure to one or more of these software packages: CDEGS, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS®E, ETAP (If you’re strong on fundamentals and motivated to learn, we still want to hear from you.)
What Jacobs offers
At Jacobs, you will join a team with a genuinely strong culture supportive, technically excellent, and invested in your growth. You can expect:
- Market-competitive remuneration and benefits
- A healthy, inclusive and multicultural environment that supports learning and development
- Mentoring and guidance from senior engineers and experienced consultants
- Exposure to a broad portfolio spanning engineering, advisory and regulatory work engaging with a wide range of clients and challenges
- Opportunities to contribute to high-impact local and global projects, building your network across Jacobs' technical community
Full-time working rights required: Applicants must have full-time working rights in Australia or New Zealand (no sponsorship for this role).
