The opportunity
We’re looking for a Team Leader to provide hands-on leadership and support to our team at the Salamander Bay Waste Transfer Station.
Our Waste Transfer Station sits within our Waste Operations unit, providing a service to the community of Port Stephens for the drop off and disposal of household waste (paint, gas bottles, oils, batteries, etc), e-waste (electronics), and mixed waste. Working closely with our Strategic Waste unit, we aim to continuously maximise our landfill diversion and provide a positive customer experience.
Your role as Team Leader will see you coordinating your team of 7 Waste Operators in waste acceptance and sorting, grounds maintenance, and other operational duties to ensure the Transfer Station is presented and operating at a high standard for our community.
You will provide direction and leadership to the team throughout all daily activities (including staff rostering), and deliver weighbridge operations, coordinate waste collection and contractor management when required. Most importantly, you will ensure the ongoing safety on-site and work within Council’s safety procedures and risk plans.
- This is a permanent chance – working full-time 38 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
- Optional overtime hours are available with Saturday/Sunday shifts – penalty rates apply
- Base Salary Range: $76,165 to $89,528 pa based on 38 hours / week + 12% superannuation + + $2,562 retention allowance + adverse work allowance
- You will be working from Salamander Bay Waste Transfer Station

- A certificate III in Waste Management or willingness and ability to obtain
- Demonstrated experience in waste management or similar field
- Proven ability to effectively lead and motivate a team
- Sound knowledge of weighbridge operations and Microsoft Office programs or ability to comprehend within probation period
