Edmund Rice College is seeking to appoint a permanent full-time, suitably qualified and highly experienced Literacy Coordinator (Years 7–12) to commence in 2027, or by negotiation.
Reporting to the Director of Learning & Teaching, the Literacy Coordinator is a specialist leadership role driving cross-curricular pedagogical consistency, case-managing targeted student literacy interventions, and leading staff capacity building in explicit grammar and language mechanics across the College.
Key responsibilities are structured around three core pillars:
- Data Analysis and Targeted Student Intervention: Translate whole-school literacy data into actionable case management. Design and facilitate targeted small-group clinics for students requiring foundational support in grammar, punctuation, and writing structure, while establishing extension pathways for high-achieving writers.
- Cross-Curricular Pedagogical Alignment: Collaborate with Heads of Department across all Key Learning Areas (including Science, HSIE, TAS, PDHPE & Religious Education) to establish subject-specific writing demands and embed whole-college scaffolding for sentence structure and paragraphing.
- Staff Capacity Building and Professional Development: Draw upon evidence-based frameworks (including NESA and AERO) to lead targeted staff professional learning, including NESA-accredited training programs, to build whole-staff confidence in delivering explicit grammar instruction and corrective feedback.
About You
The successful candidate will be an outstanding educator with demonstrated expertise in explicit literacy pedagogy, data-informed instruction,
and cross-curricular leadership within a secondary school setting.
To be considered for this position, you must be a highly dedicated professional who meets the following criteria:
- An education degree from an approved and recognised tertiary institution.
- Post-graduate qualifications in English, literacy education, or educational leadership are desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in leading whole-school or cross-curricular literacy initiatives and explicit writing instruction.
- Proven ability to analyse student achievement data to design targeted interventions and academic extension programs.
- Demonstrated experience in academic care associated with boys' education and tailoring literacy strategies to adolescent male learners.
- Accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor staff across diverse faculties.
- Proven organisational skills including multi-tasking, program management, and meeting deadlines.
- High ethical standards, confidentiality, and integrity.
- Commitment to the Edmund Rice values and ethos of the College.
- Willingness to support the Catholic ethos and learning culture of the College.
- Possess a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- A commitment to child safeguarding principles.
